Home & Away - How do you afford it?
There are some dedicated WHOers I've met over the years and West Ham in general that rarely miss a game, but how do you find it and live life generally?

This season I've not been to a single away game, but because I'm moving and can't afford to. However, next season I'm going to attempt to get an away season ticket next season as I won't have the heavy outlays I do now, so I will be able to afford it.

I imagine most who do go to all the games earn decent wedge, but are there any WHOers amongst us who sacrifice food, drink, holidays, other social activities amongst other things to finance your habit?

Norm, too late mate. I move on 1st March.

It's one of the main reasons I'm retaining my season ticket. Handy excuse to come back to London to see family and friends. The away season ticket would be the icing on the cake.

Get paid to watch all home games wouldn’t go otherwise away games cost a fortune on train and fuel always find something to make the effort worthwhile last night it was a double cheeseburger with Big Mac sauce on A14
Will spend The next few days hating the whole team of overpaid wankers
Then freeze my tits off Monday night when the same players probably beat Liverpool
The away day drug is the Fans can’t beat it

I was going to every home and Away West Ham game and every home England game with a few aways thrown in for the last few seasons. I’m not a big drinker so was only having a few games where the beer was flowing so save money there. Also would drive to games aswell.

Towards the end of last season I stopped going every game and just started picking and choosing for many reasons. I have a little girl now that I’d rather spend some time with and soon to be married, not that the missus has ever minded, she’s normally surprised when I don’t bother for big games now.

Re: Home & Away - How do you afford it?
Home games costs me in the region of £150-200 coming down from Carlisle on top of what I shelled out for my ST but like Huffers says, this is my only hobby these days

Doesn't make me a great fan, just a bit of a sad cunt

Re: Home & Away - How do you afford it?
Luckily I’ve got a decent job and this is my only real hobby. (And playing).

I’m considering not bothering so much with night away games now. Roadworks are a piss take and I now have a young son.

I’m looking forward to the day that a few of these jumped up youngsters realise they can’t afford to go anymore, the silly cunts. Not really a nice thing to say but then again, I’m not in a good mood!

As someone who hasn't been to an away game for a long time I'm in awe of those that do.
Especially for ABORTIONS of performances like last night given the money and time involved and getting home at stupid o'clock having seen a night of torture.
Well played

Certainly makes the expense hurt a little more with games like last night, though thankfully

Probably spent 120 notes all in yesterday, so that's my lot now.............until palace :o(

Don't do home games so at least dont waste money there as well.

Respect my friend.. And all that went last night.. Yes going away midweek is a sacrifice.. And on a regular basis is takes dedication.. But it is addictive.. You just do it.. And a lot of us on here have had some rough old times.. But fuck it.. Dust yourself down.. Go again.

I’ve just got home from Wolves and I must admit, whilst on the coach on the way back, I was thinking ‘I’ve just turned 60, do I really need this, especially after such a dire and seemingly uncaring performance by the team?’

Of course I do! 😉

Nights like those at Southampton, for instance, where everyone left the ground buzzing, are brilliant.

I like NS and PB and many others on here have the upmost respect for our away following. I think that comes from having done it yourself on grim nights like tonight, getting home at silly o’clock.

Every team has their hardcore following, but none as good as ours. I’m biased, of course.

Re: Home & Away - How do you afford it?
I'm married, moving up north and my wife isn't aware of my intention yet. But in the unlikely event I do get an AST, I won't be going to every game, but most. I'd also offer them out to other northern-based supporters (Trans-Pennine Irons) when I'm not able.

Re: Home & Away - How do you afford it?
I think its all about your individual priorities or what you choose in life. I used to travel to about 7 or 8 away games a from the early 80's to around 1996. Then got hitched and had kids and probably only been to another 5 or so away games since.

Agree with Sold I would never criticise our away support......its the best in the country!

who are these people that slag fans off? the only ones I wouldn't piss on it on fire are the suck that whacked the protesters at the burnley game. I have loads of mates who regularly go away and deserve a medal for sticking with it
